What’s New on TV for October

Daman Wayans Jr and Amber Stevens West star in this comedy about a 30-something happily married couple who reconnect with their younger, cooler selves when a young pop star unexpectedly moves in.

Based on the Archie comics, Riverdale can be described as a blend of Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars. Following a season of noir detective stories and delving into the world of slasher films, Riverdale returns with Archie’s murder trial for the season premiere.


The Rookie – CTV (#8), ABC (#17)
October 16 at 10 PM

Nathan Fillion of Castle comes back to the small screen in this dramedy about the oldest rookie in the LAPD. Fillion stars as John Nolan, who gives up his comfortable, small town life to pursue his dream of becoming a cop. As the oldest of the new recruits, John navigates the life of a “young cop”.


black-ish – CityTV (#7), ABC (#17)
October 17 at 8 PM

After a difficult season watching Dre and Bow struggle with the decision to separate, black-ish returns for its fifth season with the Johnsons working on their relationship to build a harmonious future. Fans of the show can expect therapy sessions, more Johnson family jokes and an insightful take on relevant social issues.


Legacies – Showcase (#39), The CW (#20)
October 25 at 9 PM

Legacies is the second spin off of The Vampire Diaries mini-verse. It follows Hope Mikaelson, the teenage daughter of franchise antagonist/anti-hero, Klaus, as she attends a school for gifted supernatural children. Given its setting in a school for vampires, witches and werewolves, Legacies will introduce a host of new characters as well as returning characters.
